The people who are working to keep our lives going are too many to mention – but my sincere thanks to all of them. I would like particularly to mention the “Dallington Volunteers,” when the lockdown started I asked the Dallington community if there were any out there who would collection prescriptions/do a bit of shopping etc., – I have called on them several times and they have always stepped up to the plate – THANK YOU.
Like all District/Town/Parish Councils, we are dealing only with essential business. Any planning applications that come in will be dealt with on my delegated authority and no meeting will be held – all new planning applications will be posted on this website.
We hope to have an Extraordinary Council Meeting in late-June/early-July to approve and sign off the Annual Governance and Accountability Return 2019-20 (AGAR). If this is possible, the date and agenda will be posted on this website and we will maintain strict social distancing.
I had no choice but to get my very amateur dog grooming kit out and have a go! He literally couldn’t see out of his eyes. I looked at all the videos on-line, obviously professional groomers and perfectly behaved dogs – yeah right. He was pretty good actually, didn’t like it much, but I managed to get rid of the Denis Healy eyebrows. The end result was pretty disastrous – a bald spot on his head, very spiky all over and I didn’t dare touch his “undercarriage, also made a terrible job of his tail, I got carried away and just kept cutting. My eldest granddaughter saw the result and her only comment, after the face palm, was “what have you done Nana, his tail looks just like a bog brush.” Thankfully his groomer phoned last Monday and RDC have told the licenced dog groomers they can open again if they observe strict social distancing. I took him there on Tuesday and she was very understanding, “it will grow again.” His beautiful powder-puff tail has gone and we will have to wait for that to come back. I don’t know how she gets him so white – when she bathes him he looks as if she’s done it with Ariel Bio on a boil-wash, when I try to bath him, he still looks very grubby. However, he’s still the happy, precious, little soul he always was and much perkier now he’s got rid of all that fur.
I was without broadband for nearly two weeks recently, it came back last Sunday. A long story, but Sky were pretty good considering all of them are working from home. Apart from an outage in East Sussex, there was a problem with my MAC address (that’s a unique number assigned to a network interface controller(?)). They sorted it out as soon as they could and I’m up and running again. It got me to thinking – what did I do before the Internet? I was obviously younger, had young children (2) and was never bored. I suppose what you don’t know, you don’t miss. I more than missed it, it has become my main access to information – I get up in the morning (still in dressing gown), brush teeth, go downstairs, make a cup of tea, fire up the iPad and look at the papers. Without it, I have to look at BBC News – which at the moment seems to be a lot of people singing Vera Lynn songs.
So we will have to wait until later when Boris lets us know the next steps out of lockdown – why do they insist on calling it a roadmap? Surely it is just a plan. I’ll keep in touch, look after yourselves.

I’ve just received a letter from SE Water about works (flushing water mains) in Dallington, starting today (14.04.20) for approximately one week. They advise that there may be a reduction in water pressure and water may appear cloudy.

Like our GPS, vets are only dealing with emergencies, although I understand they are still doing the final jabs for puppies and kittens. Check their website and phone first.
It goes without saying that our heartfelt thanks go to all NHS workers and every one of those essential workers who are keeping our lives as normal as possible. I would also like to say a massive Thank You to those Dalligton residents who have volunteered to pick up essential supplies/prescriptions for those who must not leave their homes. A resident contacted me about helping our super Postmen by leaving our gates unlatched, this is a great idea – but obviously not if you have small children or pets!

I’m afraid Alfie is in disgrace. We went to our field yesterday and as usual he was just trundling around. He managed to put up a pheasant and I don’t know who was more frightened – the pheasant or Alfie as his natural prey is a small beetle. I took my eyes off him for a moment, looked around and the Little Grotbag was on his back rolling in fox poo! I’m not normally precious, but I cannot live with with the smell of fox poo in the house. So it was straight home and in the shower for him. He’s nice and clean now, but is beginning to look like a failed attempt at Build a Bear. We haven’t had the great nail clipping project yet, but it will be very soon.
Last Christmas my son bought Alfie the biggest dog chew he could find. Alfie couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw it. He walked around it for a few minutes and you could almost hear his little doggie brain thinking – “is it really all for me?” He managed to pick it up, tried to get it through the door to the kitchen and had to work out for about 10 minutes just how to do it. That hurdle overcome, he then tried to get it up the stairs, all we could hear for most of Christmas morning was the crashing and banging of all the failed attempts. It is now in three pieces and he still guards it vigorously against the BAD KITTENS!
It’s going to be a very different Easter for all of us, with Christmas, one of the turning points of the year. I’m not religious, but understand the importance of this time of year to those of all faiths – it is the most important celebration of the Christian year, Passover for those of the Jewish faith and Ramadan starts in late April. It is so sad that our churches, synagogues, mosques and temples are closed.

A young astrophysicist, Dr. Daniel Readon, was trying to invent a device to stop people touching their faces. He ended up in hospital with magnets stuck up his nose! Every mother reading this probably rolled her eyes and thought I’ve got one like that – good brain, but no common sense – I know I have. However, full marks Dr. Daniel for trying. THE ADVENTURES OF ALFIE
He’s very bored and missing his woodland walks as we’ve decided to just exercise him in the field behind our house. I’ve just looked out of our window and there are no fire-breathing sheep in the adjacent fields – so he should be safe. We are going to have to bite the bullet soon and clip his nails, not looking forward to it, but will have to be done.
